Dr. Anderson co-founded SMD in 2010 and is President and CEO. Dr. Anderson is a board certified anesthesiologist with over 25 years of experience in the operating room specializing in orthopaedic anesthesia. He was Chief of Surgery at Ventura County Medical Center in 2000 and again in 2013 at Mammoth Hospital. Dr. Anderson’s business experience includes 9 years as CFO at South Bay Components, Inc., a family run stocking distributor of electronic components and 5 years as COO at SJ Biologics, a biotech startup exploiting cholesterol lowering technology based upon bacterial enzyme systems. Dr. Anderson holds a BA (summa cum laude) in biochemistry and cell biology and received his MD from the University of California, San Diego (Joseph Collins Fellow, 1987). He completed an anesthesiology residency at Stanford University in 1991 with a subspecialty in cardiac anesthesia. While at Stanford, Dr. Anderson completed a post-doctoral fellowship in immunology, studying the mechanisms of immunologically mediated diseases. Dr. Anderson received his MBA with honors (Delta Mu Delta) from Pepperdine University in 1999 and finished programs in object oriented programming and database management at the University of California, Los Angeles in 2003.
Ms. Park is an attorney at law, licensed to practice before all courts of the State and Federal Courts of California. Ms. Park graduated from University of California at Santa Barbara with a BA with honors in Law and Society, was a Co-Founder of the Asian Pre-Law Association, Founder of the Korean Studies Now Committee (responsible for bringing Korean Studies program to UCSB), and was honored as a Student Commencement Speaker at her Commencement program. She received her JD degree from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, California.
Prior to joining SMD in 2014, Ms. Park worked as the Senior Partner at her own law firm, as a Senior Associate at Wilson, Kenna & Borys (Los Angeles, CA) and at Roxborough, Pomerance, Nye & Adreani (Encino, CA) specializing in business and insurance litigation. Ms. Park was part of the trial team that was awarded multi-million dollar bad faith awards against several workers’ compensation insurance companies and class actions.
Mr. Stofko brings over 30 years of experience in the life sciences industry and most recently served as Vice President, Program Management of Kite Pharma (subsequently Kite, a Gilead Company), where he led program planning and management activities of cell therapy CAR-T and TCR pipeline programs through development and commercialization. Prior to joining Kite, Mr. Stofko served in leadership roles at Biogen, Inc. including Vice President, Chief of Staff to the CEO and Vice President, Program Leadership and Management. Responsibilities included leadership of cross-functional program teams responsible for the clinical development, product life-cycle management, commercialization, and overall global asset strategy for late-stage neurology programs focused on Alzheimer’s disease and multiple sclerosis. Mr. Stofko also served as life-cycle leader and led the alliances with Abbvie, Eisai, and Genentech/Roche, including the antiCD20 programs in oncology, rheumatology, and neurology. Previously, he held positions in marketing, sales, and commercial operations, and was involved in the clinical development strategy and/or commercial launch of leading biotech pharmaceutical brands, including Rituxan®, Avonex®, Tysabri®, Plegridy®, Gazyva®, Yescarta®, Zevalin®, and Zinbryta®. Earlier in his career, Mr. Stofko held general management, operations, and clinical positions at Baxter/Caremark International, and faculty responsibilities at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Mr. Stofko holds a B.S. degree in Pharmacy from the University of Connecticut and an M.B.A. from Babson College.
The Business Advisory Board currently oversees the company’s financial position. In addition, the Business Advisory Board assists with strategic planning and operational logistics.
The Clinical Advisory Board oversees the company’s R&D program, including regulatory and compliance issues and surgeon user needs. In addition, the Clinical Advisory Board interfaces with university surgeons and research personnel currently testing the SMARTdrill.
